The signature and flagship dish. Mildly spiced curried potatoes and a wedge of hard-boiled egg are encased in a multi-layered, hand-folded pastry that shatters on the first bite then melts. The filling is not greasy or heavy—it's surprisingly light and balanced. The spice level is mild, making it accessible even to those wary of curry. The texture contrast between the crispy pastry and creamy potato filling is what keeps people returning.
Tips from diners
Eat immediately while still warm. The pastry is best within 5 minutes of purchase—it hardens as it cools.
The spiral layers are visibly different from standard curry puffs. Bite through the crust slowly to appreciate the craftsmanship.
At SGD 2 each, they're inexpensive. Most people order 2–3 because one isn't quite satisfying.
Occasionally available, though less common than the savory options. The sweet kaya filling provides a custard-like richness within the same exceptional pastry shell. A comfort food departure from the curry puffs.
Tips from diners
Check availability before your visit—this isn't always stocked. Call ahead if you're specifically seeking it.
A more pungent, less sweet option featuring tinned sardine curry. This version has more umami and a distinctive seafood flavor. Not for everyone, but adventurous eaters find it compelling.
Tips from diners
Try this if you like strong flavors. The sardine is umami-rich and quite different from the potato version.
Similar pastry craftsmanship but with tender shredded chicken curry filling. The chicken is slightly more flavorful and substantial than the potato version. Some diners prefer this for the protein content.
Tips from diners
Go for the chicken version if you want more substance. It's still only 50 cents more and feels more filling.
An economical way to try multiple varieties. The pack typically includes 2 potato, 2 chicken, and 2 sardine puffs. Great for sharing or trying all versions.
Tips from diners
This pack offers the best value and lets you experience all three core varieties without committing to a single flavor.
J2 Famous Crispy Curry Puff was established in 2007 by a husband-and-wife team who brought back the traditional spiral pastry technique that few hawkers still practice. The stall was awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand from 2016–2018 and remains the only curry puff stall ever to receive such recognition. Their signature spiral-layered crust, achieved through meticulous hand-folding, shatters on first bite and melts in the mouth—a stark contrast to mass-produced, greasy alternatives.
Located within Amoy Street Food Centre, surrounded by other excellent stalls. Come hungry for a full hawker experience.
Weekdays only, 8am–4pm (or earlier if sold out). Closed weekends. Plan your visit accordingly—not available for weekend hawker trips.
The spiral technique is labor-intensive and rarely seen in modern hawker stalls. This is one of the last places practicing it. Worth visiting for the craftsmanship alone.
