One of TOAD's most popular items. Despite its hefty size, it tastes subtle enough to want a second helping. The saffron flavor is delicate and sophisticated without overpowering the tender crumb.
Tips from diners
Pairs beautifully with their single-origin Pharmacie coffee.
Flaky, remarkably tender croissants that reviewers consistently rate as the best they've tasted anywhere. Made with proper lamination and French butter, they have a crispy exterior and a delicate, buttery interior.
Tips from diners
Arrive right when they open on Saturday morning to avoid queues and ensure fresh stock isn't picked over.
One of the three best things you can get at TOAD according to reviewers. The tin loaf is dense and moist with complex grain flavor from the 72+ hour fermentation. Made with heritage grains sourced from sustainable UK farms.
Tips from diners
Buy it fresh and use within 2 days for the best flavor and texture. Great for toast or sandwiches.
A savory take on the classic butter croissant, topped with a mix of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, salt, and onion. Crispy on the outside with a soft, buttery interior that absorbs the seasoning flavors.
Tips from diners
A filling option that works well on its own or with a coffee.
A croissant-based bear claw pastry filled with tender slow-braised beef brisket and tangy pickle. The flaky pastry contrasts with the rich, caramelized meat filling. Reviewers note TOAD also makes a slow-braised goat version.
Tips from diners
A substantial savory option—satisfying enough to be a light meal rather than just a pastry.
Oliver Costello and Rebecca Spaven, who previously worked at Ottolenghi and Fortitude Bakehouse, opened this bakery opposite the South London Gallery. Everything is made fresh daily with a constantly rotating seasonal menu. The sourdough is long-fermented from UK-grown, sustainably farmed grain, but it's the pastries that have made TOAD a destination—people travel across London for their croissants.
Get there early on weekends—queues can be substantial by 10am. Arrive right when they open at 8:30 to avoid the rush.
TOAD is small with limited standing room and no proper seating. It's a grab-and-go bakery, though you can stand outside on the colorful stools with your pastry.
The menu changes regularly with seasonal specials like mango creamsicle (mango gel & mascarpone-stuffed brioche), coffee-glazed pecan & caramac pastries, and experimental combinations—check what's on the counter each visit.
Order their house brew (single-origin Pharmacie coffee) or try one of their guest filter coffees for an excellent pairing with any pastry.
