Our most famous product. A secret blend of high-quality cocoa and milk with heritage spices. It can be served cold for a refreshing treat or steamed hot. For the ultimate experience, order it 'Suís' — topped with a mountain of our legendary fresh, hand-whisked, unsweetened cream.
Tips from diners
An absolute mandatory order. It's the soul of the place. Get it with the fresh cream (Suís) — it's the real 1930s experience.
We use traditional, fresh 'Mató' cheese made for us by small local dairies. It has a light, granular texture and a mild flavor that is perfectly balanced by a generous drizzle of local dark forest honey and a handful of toasted Catalan walnuts.
Tips from diners
The simplest and best dessert in Catalonia. The cheese is remarkably fresh. It's much lighter than anything else on the menu.
A light, spiraled pastry specialty that has been a staple of the Viader family since the beginning. Made using traditional lard-based dough for maximum tenderness. They are baked throughout the day to ensure freshness.
Tips from diners
The texture is like a cloud. It's best had in the morning. Great for dipping in your Cacaolat!
Unlike the American style, our cheesecake (Flaó) is made using fresh goat and sheep cheese and is infused with wild mint and aniseed. It's a deep, aromatic, and less sweet version of the classic.
Tips from diners
The mint flavor is very surprising but it works remarkably well with the goat cheese. A very unique find in the city.
Our hot chocolate is cooked using a 100-year-old family recipe. It reaches a deep, velvety consistency that is designed specifically for dipping. Served with four of our high-quality, non-greasy churros fried fresh throughout the day.
Tips from diners
The chocolate is thick enough to stand a spoon in! One portion is perfect to share between two people for a late afternoon snack.
Granja M. Viader is a living piece of Barcelona's culinary history. Originally a dairy shop, it became a 'granja' (dairy bar) where generations of Barcelonans have gone for their afternoon 'merienda'. It is most famous as the place where Cacaolat (the world's first industrial fruit-milk drink) was invented in 1931. The tiled walls and marble tables are original, preserving a 19th-century charm in the heart of the Raval.
Take a moment to look at the photos on the walls — they tell the story of the Viader family and the birth of Cacaolat. The place has been in the same family for five generations.
It gets very busy for 'merienda' (afternoon tea) around 5:30pm. Show up earlier in the session to avoid a queue for the marble tables. They take a long break in the middle of the day!
