Our pride and joy. We make our batter using a secret family ratio of flours and fry them in clean, high-grade oil that is changed daily. They are served immediately, still warm, with a light dusting of sugar. The crunch is unrivaled in the Gothic Quarter.
Tips from diners
An absolute mandatory order. Don't go anywhere else in this area. You can taste the quality and the fact that the oil is fresh. It's worlds apart from the tourist spots.
We take our chocolate seriously. Cooked slow until it reaches a deep, velvety consistency with just a hint of bitterness. It's the perfect companion to our crispy churros and is large enough for two people to dip into.
Tips from diners
The chocolate is thick enough to stand a spoon in! It's very rich, so one portion for two people is usually enough if you're just dipping.
For those who want a more substantial bite. Our porras are fermented a bit longer to ensure an airy interior and a golden, crunchy exterior. They are excellent for soaking up the thick hot chocolate.
Tips from diners
They are quite oily, so get them only if they are fresh. When they are hot, they are incredibly light and airy inside.
A light, spiraled pastry specialty of the Balearic Islands that has become a staple in Barcelona. Ours are made using traditional lard-based dough for maximum tenderness and dusted with a snow-like layer of fine sugar.
Tips from diners
Great if you want something less 'heavy' than fried dough. They are remarkably fresh and go perfectly with the coffee.
A favorite for our morning regulars. A large, perfectly executed café con leche using high-grade local beans, served with two of our signature fresh churros for dipping. It's the most authentic way to start a day in the Gothic Quarter.
Tips from diners
The coffee quality is surprisingly good for a churrería. It's much better value and more authentic than the cafes nearby.
Don't let the modest exterior fool you; Churrería Laietana is a refined example of simplicity. This multi-generational family business focus on one thing: making the perfect churro. The oil is always fresh, the batter is light, and the chocolate is thick enough to stand a spoon in. It is a quiet, authentic refuge in the busiest part of the city, beloved by locals and savvy travelers.
There are only a few stools at the counter. Most people stand or take their churros to go. If you want to sit, show up right when they open or during the mid-morning lull around 11:00am.
They close for a break in the afternoon, so check the hours carefully. It's a very traditional family business, so don't expect 'fast food' service — everything is made with care.
