Available January through March. Large, sweet spring onions (calçots) are grilled over an intense wood fire until the outside is charred black. You peel away the char to reveal the tender, sweet heart, then dip it in our nut-heavy, house-made Romesco sauce. A fundamental Catalan experience.
Tips from diners
If you are here during the season, you MUST order these. They will give you a bib and gloves — use them, it's messy but amazing fun. The Romesco here is top-tier.
We source premium garden snails and roast them on a large flat tray (llauna) with plenty of black pepper, sea salt, garlic, and a dash of white wine. It's a rustic, social dish meant to be shared with friends and a bottle of Catalan red.
Tips from diners
One of the few places in the city that does these properly. They are packed with flavor. Don't be shy with the toothpicks!
We source the best local rabbit and grill it slowly over oak wood coals until smoky and tender. It's served with a generous dollop of our extra-strong house-made alioli and a side of traditional 'escalivada' (roasted vegetables). It's the quintessential Catalan tavern dish.
Tips from diners
An absolute mandatory order. The smoky flavor from the wood fire is incredible. Be prepared — the alioli is VERY strong and authentic!
Made fresh daily using our own family recipe of local milk, egg yolks, cinnamon, and lemon zest. It's served chilled and finished with a traditional iron-torched sugar caramel that provides a perfect glass-like crunch on every bite.
Tips from diners
The best end to a rustic meal. The sugar crust is remarkably thick. Pair with a small glass of sweet Garnacha wine.
We use premium Bomba rice and a deeply concentrated seafood dashi. It's cooked in a wide pan to ensure a thin layer of rice with a light 'socarrat' (cruchy bottom). Served with large prawns, mussels, squid, and clams. Honest, reliable, and traditional.
Tips from diners
Much better quality than the tourist traps on the Ramblas. The flavor is in the rice, not just the toppings. Best shared between two people.
El Glop is a Gràcia institution, a place where the rustic feel of the Catalan countryside meets the heart of the city. Since opening in 1978, it has been dedicated to 'Cuina Catalana de pagès' (peasant cooking). With its dark wood interior and bustling energy, it's the go-to spot for grilled meats, hearty stews, and seasonal specialties produced with local, market-sourced ingredients.
It's a very popular spot for groups and families on weekends. Book at least a week in advance for a Saturday or Sunday lunch. If you're a walk-in, try showing up right at 1:00pm.
It's loud, bustling, and very authentic. If you want a quiet, intimate date, this might not be the spot. If you want the real soul of a Catalan tavern, it's perfect.
