Glutinous rice is steamed and mixed with sweetened coconut milk. It is served with a whole, perfectly ripe mango (sourced for its maximum sweetness) and topped with a drizzle of warm coconut cream and toasted sesame seeds.
Tips from diners
Only available in season (late spring/summer) because they refuse to use inferior mangos. If they have it, you must order it.
Frequently cited as the most authentic in the city. Rice noodles are stir-fried in a hot wok with tamarind paste, fish sauce, palm sugar, and fresh sprouts. Served with large, head-on grilled river prawns, crushed peanuts, and fresh lime. The balance of sweet, sour, and salty is spot-on.
Tips from diners
An absolute mandatory order. The tamarind flavor is very present, exactly like in Thailand. The river prawns are huge and very juicy.
Our version of Gaeng Keow Wan. A house-made green curry paste using fresh Thai basils, green chilies, and galangal. We add chunks of seasonal local white fish and crunchy bamboo shoots. It's creamy, aromatic, and moderate in its spice level.
Tips from diners
The herbs are so fresh you can smell them as the plate arrives. Ask for extra chili if you like it more authentic, but the default level is perfect for most.
Four skewers of chicken thigh marinated in coconut milk and turmeric, grilled over charcoal until smoky. Served with a thick, house-made peanut sauce that has a hint of red curry paste for depth. Comes with a side of cucumber relish.
Tips from diners
The peanut sauce is addictive. It's much more complex than the ones you find in supermarket jars. Great for kids too.
Shredded green papaya, cherry tomatoes, and long beans are pounded in a traditional mortar with chili, garlic, dried shrimp, and roasted peanuts. It's a shocking, refreshing explosion of acidity and crunch.
Tips from diners
Very spicy! If you're sensitive to chili, ask them to dial it down. It's the perfect way to wake up the palate before the richer curries.
Galanga Thai House is dedicated to bringing the true, uncompromising flavors of Thailand to Barcelona. Unlike many generic 'Asian' spots, it focus on specific regional nuances, using fresh herbs and authentic spices imported directly. The space is minimalist and welcoming, reflecting the balance and clarity of the cooking, and is widely considered the best Thai experience in the city by the local expat community.
The space is quite small and very popular with the neighborhood. Book a few days in advance for dinner. Sitting by the open kitchen window is the best experience for couples.
Don't be afraid to ask the staff about the spice levels. They are very honest and will help you navigate the menu based on your preference. The 'Thai spicy' is no joke!
