Holy Wine's entire business model revolves around natural wines—fermented with minimal or no added sulfites, reflecting the true character of the grapes and terroir. The bar carries dozens of options ranging from light, fruity whites to earthy reds to funky orange wines. Bartenders are enthusiastic educators and will pour samples before you buy, letting you explore without committing to a full pour.
Tips from diners
Ask the bartender for recommendations based on what you usually like. Prices per glass start around €7–8 and go up. They'll pour samples of anything on the shelf to help you decide.
The 'bar' is literally a window counter on the street. You stand and sip, or squeeze into the tiny indoor counter if there's room. This is very much a casual, standing wine experience.
Curated selection of everyday drinking natural wines at entry price points.
Tips from diners
Start with the €7–8 house options before splurging on rare or higher-priced bottles. Still excellent quality, just more accessible price.
Holy Wine functions as both a wine bar and retail shop. Any wine you taste by the glass can be purchased as a full bottle to take home. Prices range from €18 to €50+ depending on the producer and rarity.
Tips from diners
If you find a wine you love, you can buy the bottle right there. The staff can advise on pairings for dinner or special occasions. This is how many locals build their home wine collections.
Holy Wine sits along Calçada da Estrela, one of Lisbon's most famous tram routes (Tram 28). The bar is minuscule—just a few seats indoors and a crowd spilling onto the narrow sidewalk most evenings. The focus is exclusively on low-intervention and biodynamic wines sourced from small producers worldwide. Bartenders pour generous samples before you commit, encouraging exploration.
Open daily 3pm–11pm (midnight Friday, 1am weekends). The bar gets crowded after work (6–8pm). Come early afternoon or late evening for a quieter experience, or expect to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other wine lovers.
There are almost no seats inside. The experience is standing at the bar counter on the sidewalk, sipping wine and watching Tram 28 rattle past. If you want to sit, come very early or very late.
This is the opposite of a wine snob bar. The staff is welcoming and eager to help newcomers understand natural wine without pretension. Ask questions—they love talking about the wines.
